DMV adventures

After 3 attempts at getting my California license, I finally succeeded.

The first attempt ended in failure as the DMV informed me that my license was suspended due to an old unpaid traffic ticket. I knew the exact ticket the were referring to. It was illegally issued to me during a critical mass bike ride. Had I not missed my court date, it would definitely have been dropped. I guess I can only blame myself for that one.

The second attempt got a bit further than the first. I was almost finished when they noticed the name on my social security number did not match the one on my passport. Luckily, the social security office was only a few blocks away. However, the lady working there claimed their “computers must be shut down overnight and restarted for the information to be updated to the DMV.” That was what I was told, pretty much word for word, I shit you not.

Finally, I returned today for the third time. Aside from failing the written exam once, it went as smooth as I had hoped. I am now officially a California resident.
